Some much needed cleanup and site changes to take place
soon....
2007.04.10
Welcome back,
Hacker....!
2007.03.10
Please welcome
Sweetdreams to the site - our first addition of
2007... Also a big thanks to Opiophile.org for
their part in funding the site...!
2006.12.24
Our last and newest addition to the site before the New
Year and definitely a most gifted writer (and Junky);
please welcome
Shelley to the site.
Also, a little clean-up was in order and our
Junkylife OPML feed has been updated. Check it

2006.12.02
Time for a little Junkylife clean-up as we've moved
several folks to the archive pages who we hope to see
back again soon. Silly Junkies. Our
Junkylife OPML feed has also been updated to reflect
these changes - be sure to download our latest import
for your RSS reader...
Also, Junkylife is finally away from Bluehost and on a virtual private server which runs a little spendy, but well worth it. For once in your life, just listen to an addict; Bluehost is fucked.
Some new members soon to come, now that we've room....
2006.08.09
Welcome our newest member and first to be received from
the Junkylife Guest Weblog,
Beautiful Disaster. Don't forget to refresh
your
Junkylife RSS Feed!
2006.07.29
The summer months have been a little slow for the
Junkylife main site, but with
Caesee as our newest addiction, we're hoping to
break the cycle.
The Junkylife Guest Weblog has turned out to be an incredibly rewarding endeavor and with such talented authors as Beautiful Disaster and Veinus de Milo, we're excited to continue reading the works of those who are just beginning to post on a more regular basis.
More soon to come...
2006.06.04
The Junkylife
Site Forums be open...
2006.06.03
A few minor upgrades and changes to the site with even
more soon to come. We've changed our application
process up a bit to coincide with our new
Guest Weblog. Also, we're finalizing our new
Junkylife forum which we hope will help bridge the gap
between writer and reader, allowing us to better get to
know those who make our efforts both worthwhile and
possible. Pardon our dead link in the navigation
bar above while we work out a few minor problems.
2006.05.28
Please welcome
redsnapper to the Junkylife scene. Our newest
addition to the site and our first from the UK...
Some upgrades and changes soon to come, including a Junkylife Guest Weblog for the occasional Junky passerby, plus a public forum to help us better get to know our readers and those Junkies interested in participating, but uninterested in weblogging.
More soon to come...

Our apologies for the downtime. Due to an issue
with a corrupt database, we decided to turn the site off
until the problem was resolved just in case changes and
updates made would need to be reverted.
Although our new host has been extremely generous in offering both bandwidth and disk space, it appears that most of their processes are almost completely automated, leaving a huge margin for the possibility of data loss and error. While we've taken every precaution in order to minimize the likelihood of a problem, because the server that Junkylife resides on is no longer in our hands (and because we cannot afford the pipe that our host provides), we've ultimately sacrificed integrity for performance and will be needing to make some changes in order to balance this out.
For the time being, should you come across a Junkylife member page with a missing picture (a red 'X' in place of an image) or other missing information, please use our 'Contact Form' to let us know, making sure to include the URL of your find. Your assistance in helping us get back on our feet is highly appreciated.

Our two newest members since the move, please welcome
Inanna and
ComaToes...
We're going to again take a short break from applications in order to work out some minor bugs and make way for an upgrade or two. While we won't be accepting new members at this time, applications are always welcome.
2006.03.20
Hey, we made it...! Congrats to Junkylife and many
thanks to all who've contributed their personal
resources and finance in order for our move to happen.
With a much bigger pipe and a faster Quad-Proc Linux
server, we're ready to do some major reconstruction.
Check back often for what's to come and be sure to use our contact form to report any problems; your help is always appreciated...!
2006.03.19
Junkylife would like to express our sincere gratitude to
everyone who has been kind enough to donate to the site.
We've had a significant number of member donations, as
well as some incredibly generous donations made
by our readers. We can't thank you enough.
2006.03.14
And one last member before our big move,
PoisonIvy.
2006.03.11
Welcome to our two newest members,
Ginger and
JunkyJane.
We're going to be taking a short break on applications and new memberships for a few days due to the fact that we'll be moving to a new hosting location, providing us with additional bandwidth and resources for our audience and newest members. You may notice the site down for a short while during this process; we appreciate your patience during this time.
In light of our relocation, we'd like to point out our 'Donations' page. The hosting and time that goes into Junkylife can often be costly and consuming. ii you're in a way to donate, we definitely appreciate your generosity and timing...
Finally, we'd like to mention our newest addition to the site, our Junkylife ClusterMap, provided by Clustermaps.com. This map is somewhat opposite of our Junkylife BlogMap, in that it shows the unique demographic in regards to our readers. Click the Map for additional information (statistics found when viewing the ClusterMap reflect only views to this particular page, and not to the webs of individual bloggers.)

2006.02.28
In recent weeks, Junkylife has been
forced to ask two members to leave the site.
Since this time, these two members have setup a
similar site under a similar name with an
identical guise and have used much of it to
belittle 'the original' here at Junkylife.
Because this new site has experienced very little traffic, these individuals have asked that we link to their new web. We have declined to do so, mainly out of respect to our own members. Using our own resources to promote a site, which is quite obviously making every effort to do exactly the opposite in regards to Junkylife, would be a fairly stupid thing to do. (Not to mention the fact that 90% of this site takes aim both collectively and even quite personally at folks currently membered to our web, here.)
In asking members to leave, we have traditionally been quiet in announcing the when and why, responding only to inquiries sent via our contact form. We will continue to go about member subtractions in this way, with the exception of this single, one-time entry:
Junkylife does not typically respond to threats, tantrums, or bullying from other aspiring, would-be Junkylife hopefuls. We only choose to act in response on this single occasion as we feel that we owe our readers an explanation as to why they may be reading off-putting articles about the Junkylife project elsewhere.
As fans of Junkylife, we'd like to ask that you keep in mind the source and nature of this unintelligent discourse which can be found at another 'unmentionable' website. Take note of their blatant copyright infringement and reprinting of works not authored to or by anyone related to their web. We'd also like to ask that you keep in mind Junkylife has never, on any occasion, used our own resources in similar destructive fashion against another individual or group of individuals or against any other location on the web.
Ultimately, we understand that the offending individuals will most likely find themselves bored, out of breath, and will stop writing altogether, destructive or otherwise, as they did when their works lived here. This is highly unfortunate as those authors they continue to lure over to this substandard site will most likely find themselves, and their work, eventually shoved under the rug.
As always, we continue to appreciate those who carry on in reading and commentating on our work at Junkylife; our audience is always greatly appreciated. Please get in touch should you have any individual questions or concerns; we'll be happy to address them as we find the time.

Happy New Year from Junkylife.com!
We thought we'd bring in 2006 by encouraging our readers to take a glance at the Junkylife 'Donations' page. And with our New Year's resolution to branch out our services and member base, your contribution couldn't come in at a better time.
A big thanks to all the Junkylife fans and readers; without your participation, where would we be?
2005.12.30
Hell, why not? Let's close out the year
with our two newest Junkies;
ComfortablyNumb and
Methadonez...
Also soon to come is a more extensive 'About' page, explaining Junkylife, our purpose, and what it takes to get here.
With our increased hosting costs and member base, donations are more than welcome. Plus, those who donate will be mentioned (optionally, of course) on our donations page which includes a traffic-generating link to your own website, if you care to leave one.
Another great year for Junkylife and of course, our Junkylifers. Everyone made it through; to another year, of course!

2005.10.19
I guess we'll see just how long it lasts.
While the Google Map API-supplied Blogmap is
really, really cool, there's the possibility
that Google is going to frown upon its location.
We've included some disclaimers and have sent
off a mail to Google; hopefully we'll be in the
clear.
Also, Junkylife welcomes Mae and Anorthic to the scene, plus it looks like Jacky is making a comeback (only time will tell.)
The new member's area is, of course, for members only. Want to know what's inside? Top-secret Junky stuff, that's what (or simply a lot of information that would surely bore to death any non-Junkylife member.)
I few updates have been made to Junkylife.com. While we're really wanting to host the entire site via a Wordpress blog, it's not been as easy as we'd like it. So much for RSS updates on the front page, however, we're working on it.
At over 10,000 visitors a day and at least one new applicant a week, we've created an application process accessible via our 'Contribute' link. We've also completely removed the phpBB forum as it wasn't getting much use and phpBB out of the box is pretty much crap, anyway (sorry, phpBB, maybe someday you'll get there.)
We're also ironing out our new sidebars, randomizing our links list so you'll always be looking at something new. Soon to come...
Also new to Junkylife is the way we handle RSS. Keep up with all Junkylife has to offer by subscribing to Junkylife as a whole! You can import our RSS feed by using the new link located in our footer, or by checking out our 'Syndicate' page for additional details.
Just in time for October arrives Butterfly...
Soma finally makes it in...
Junkylife welcomes Magdalene to the scene.
Some additional site updates soon to come, we're planning a minor (and then major) overhaul of the layout and functionality of Junkylife.com.
Our domain is about to expire. Want to help us renew? Check out our 'Donate' link for info on how to do so.
Junkylife welcomes back Ariel.
A couple of lowly Junkies have recently slithered our way; introducing Emerald and Kel.
We've made a few changes in the last week and a major one worth mentioning in regards to 'Paint It Black'. He died.
Nah, just kidding. Pib is alive and kicking, in fact almost reborn one could say! Please update your links and syndication with PIB's new URL at www.junkylife.com/pib with an RSS feed of http://www.junkylife.com/pib/index.php/feed.
Oh no, Wednesday the 13th! The only day harder to score is Sunday. Hacker knows best.
New to Junkylife and another Livejournal convert is Sickgirl.
Echotrash has recently signed on with Junkylife.
I wonder what it would look like (or how it would operate) if the entire site was a Wordpress blog? Would the forum still function in this frame? How about adding the member columns? Something to think about. Any ideas, by all means, send them my way....
Lupa has recently joined the ranks.
We're in the process of syndicating the entire site, however its not an easy task (at least not for a Junky.) Soon to come...
Junkylife welcomes Bella to the blogging scene.... OPML export file updated.
Who needs that dictionary anyway? Let's replace it with a link to our new contribution page, shall we?
Boy, things are really picking up around here. We've recently added Ophelia and Shoxy to our list of beloved Junkylife members and a few more possibilities are in the works. We may have to start accepting new members on an applicant basis so if you've been wanting to get a Junkylife blog it would be a good idea to step up now rather than later. (Whaddya mean you don't want to be a Junky?)
Also, we're working on an RSS feed for the Junkylife main page. If you'd like to keep track of our Junkylife bloggers, right-click and save-as this RSS OPML export file, importing it into your favorite RSS reader (such as RSSReader or Sharp Reader.)
Also soon to come are some kick-ass Junkylife promo materials. Stay tuned for more...
Welcome to Morphina and Oldgirl; glad they could make it.
Junkylife is interested in anyone who would be willing to in document their experience with Ibogaine (from start to finish.) If you meet this criteria and wish to participate, please get in touch via the contact form and let us know.
Welcome our newest Junkylife member, Bettina. Bettina pulled me out of the mud on more than one occasion and without her help, I'd be nowhere near where I'm at today. We're honored to have her on as a Junkylife member.
Frames and not tables, frames and not tables. I wish I could remember who to thank on this one; a somewhat anonymous suggestion that we move away from the tables and redesign with frames. Much easier than I thought and prettier, too. The forum has been redesigned to both be viewed and used inline, the code also updated to the latest version. Our slang dictionary is in the works and our contact page almost finished. Also soon to come is the viewing of each blog from within this frame. My only problem with this so far is the dilemma in how to link to both the inline feed and the external blog. Got an idea?
Looking for a forum RSS feed? RSS 2.0 Here.
Thanks, everyone, for your support and participation; things are coming along beautifully.
Kindly pointed out to me by a Junkylife.com member is an article posted by the Dallas Observer entitled, "Generation RX" and written by a Glenna Whitley. The article concerns mainly the death of a college student who had overdosed on something somehow attributed to Junkylife.com. As our link is posted halfway through the article and lumped in with several other sites (sites used for education, harm reduction, or simply for information) it becomes apparent that no visit was made to our site nor was it researched for the article.
This truly is journalism at its finest, although I can hardly complain; the link does put us even more so on the map. However, to clarify, I thought I'd at least write the author of the article a short rebuttal, complete with an explanation of our ICRA and SafeSurf ratings, which keep us from appearing on those browsers properly configured to prohibit materials classified as 'adult' or 'inappropriate for children'. After two weeks, I've yet to receive a response.
Just to be sure, I resent my rebuttal to both the Dallas Observer and Glenna Whitely. To date I've received nothing in return; not even so much as a confirmation from their site stating they have received my letter. However unfortunate this is, it should be noted that our intended purpose defeats their unintentional misconception; we are not the promoters of sin, but the bringers of truth.
As readers, you'll find no greater veracity than what you read inside these blogs. We are addiction at its finest; we point no fingers.
And finally, we spiral upward. The site has decisively taken off and we've have found our place. With impressions in the thousands and requests for new blogs daily, Junkylife.com is appealing to an even wider audience. A special thanks to Peripat for her encouragement and of course, brilliant idea of allowing the Junkies to tell their own story (rather than someone like myself making a poor attempt in doing so.)
Interested in Junkylife.com promotional items? Soon to come...
Rather have your name replaced with a photo? Send on a black & white (or color to be made so) picture no smaller than 120x80 pixels and I'll make it so (with or without name in front.)
Ever growing, Junkylife welcomes Jacky, Nephalim, Ariel, WNG, Rope, Ogre, & Chucky to the blogging scene. Check them out using the sidebars...
Wordpress v1.5.1 has been released and your blogs updated. A welcome to Micah and HeroineGirl, our two new Junkylife.com members. Soon to come is a complete revamping of the site, getting rid of these frames and allowing the viewing of blog entries from within the Junkylife web (rather than each page opening into a new window.) Junkylife.com is always looking for new bloggers; if you're interested, drop us a line using the contact form.
Some changes have been made, and bugs will be found. Please report any strange activity to me via this contact form.
A forum has been added for existing members or for anyone who might be interested in checking out the Junkylife.com scene. Curious on how to become a Junkylife blogger? Want to know how something works? Confused as hell in what you're doing here to begin with? Click www.junkylife.com/forum
Please be patient with us as we redesign the site. Rather than frames, we'll be using tables shortly.. I've made some changes to ensure the member blogs open in their own unique window, rather than here in this main frame.\(Which I had neglected to realize was perfectly sized only for those viewing at 1600x1200. Oops.)
Invitations are still open. Anyone wanting a Junkylife.com blog of their own, click and its yours.
My original goal was to find no more than a
dozen people and do some documentation, complete
with black and white photos, about their daily
lives of use, addiction, etc. and then post
articles about them linked to by photos from the
front page of the site. My idea was to document
the heavily addicted, but at this point I'd like
to widen this scope to involve anyone who
incorporates opiates (or even other drugs) into
their lifestyle. This could be just a blog entry
every now and then, to an entire journal that
you'll be able to look back on several years
from now. These blogs would reside on a secure
server and would be hosted via Wordpress (http://wordpress.org)
software. This blogging software is incredibly
powerful from a Weblog perspective and allows a
person to both post and manage their blog
securely from anywhere via web access.
Currently, the plans for the accompanying photos
have been put on hold. I've found that most who
are able to follow through with this kind of
thing are also maintaining normal lives and
don't want their identities compromised.
The general look and feel of the site will stay
somewhat the same, although there will be some
minor changes. The b&w pics on each side column
will be altered to represent a blog. Either a
picture of you or a picture that you'd like to
represent you will replace the old pics of my
Portland apt and will link to your blog at
www.junkylife.com/Your_Name_Here
There are only three main requirements to this
project, and here they are:
Keep a valid email address so I can contact you. (If you need an email address, or even if you'd like an additional one, all participants are welcome to a Junkylife email account.)
Keep up the list of Junkylife links on your blog. You can create additional links and even additional link categories, but you must provide links to the other participant's blogs. I'll mail you the necessary links as needed.
Agree to keep the Junkylife logo somewhere visible on your blog. Originally, I was going to have everyone agree on one central theme, but what's the point of that? Maybe we'll get there at some point, but for now all I ask is that you keep the logo somewhere visible. More than a hundred themes or 'skins' are available for the new version of Wordpress, and their easily installed and managed. If you find one that you'd like, I'll gladly make it available to you. Plus, I've created several defaults for you to choose from.
Need more to sell you?
Weekly backups are made of the forum, blogs, etc. You'll have all the functionality of something you'd otherwise pay a few bucks for.
I'm my own ISP. This project is long-term -- no need to worry about your work going down the toilet. I've been online for almost four years to the day and have less than 5 hours total down-time.
Look back in 20 years on what you've written! I've kept a blog for about four years now, and I can't tell you how rewarding it is to read back on my life (since I wouldn't remember otherwise.)
Pictures can be posted to your blog. Keep your own photo journal - I'm not going to get in the way.
You'll be part of cyber-history! Only until just recently have we not been able to bridge to the gap between the right and left with something as simple as a click of the mouse.
This doesn't apply only to strung out, street hardened junkies. This applies to any of the following:
Occasional users of heroin or prescription pain meds
Those who are recovering from opiated lifestyles.
Those who have recovered from opiated lifestyles
Those who are forced into addiction via physical pain management
All out, full blown, junked out motherfuckers.
Users of other drugs who wish to participate.
If there's anyone
interested in participating, please use this
contact form
and I'll get you started. Please post any
questions here and I'll answer them to the best
of my ability. Also, I want to make it extremely
clear that I'm not looking for, nor am I asking
for anyone to go out and create stories
or blog entries. This project is also long term;
I'm not asking anyone's obligations in writing a
novel in a month or two. In my own blog, I've
gone from writing an entry a day for a couple of
months, to an entry a month for a couple of
years. There's no pressure here. I'm also a
junky myself, and I'm well acquainted with
procrastination. I'm in this with full awareness
that not everyone who signs up will follow
through. Not a big deal; even if you're wanting
to just try it out, knowing you might say 'no
thanks' later on is totally ok with me.
Get in touch with our
contact form.
You can also instant message me via MSN
Messenger at
bi11i@msn.com (do not email this address.) Check out our demo at

Junkylife is now heading in an entirely new direction. Rather than push my own perspective of each individual I'd be interviewing, the individual is going to push their own. Junkylife will now host several web logs of both text and photo, all of which are based on the lives of those whose paths have crossed with opiate addiction. Stay tuned for the links to the logs, and newly updated photography.
If you've any interest in participating in this project, and you feel that you 'meet the criteria', please contact me using this form.
It looks like things are kind of coming along. A few more willing participants (one of the hardest problems to overcome here) and some free time to set things up...
Having just started this project, content is still in the design stage and planning is still in the works as to how to approach the issue, portray the reality of the junky-scene, and how to attain a specific level of anonymity and safety of the participants as to not endanger those who have so graciously donated their personal photos and stories. Although addiction presents itself in many forms, the main focus of this project is to illustrate the trials and tribulation of the junky; the opiate addict.
